The Oriental Hall, Cairo University

Cairo University, Giza, Egypt

The place

The Oriental Hall at Cairo University is a richly decorated ceremonial hall: mashrabiya screens and doors, marble columns with carved capitals, and a painted, gilded coffered ceiling. A medallion dated 1932 and a cartouche dated 1351 AH mark its decoration.

Memorial panels around the hall carry the names of scholars of the East, among them Silvestre de Sacy, Champollion, Gesenius, Fleischer, Nöldeke, Wellhausen, Maspero and Goldziher.

This experience

Stand at fourteen points around the hall, photographed in 360° with an Insta360 X3. Drag to look around and click a gold ring on the floor to step to the next point. It also runs in VR on Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro.
